Our goal at Elkin Community Acupuncture is to provide quality acupuncture at affordable prices to the community.  We do not ask for income statements; you just pay what you can afford between $15 and $35. View Community Acupuncture Video...

Acupuncture in the U.S. has progressed towards social and scientific acceptance in the past few decades and its popularity has risen. Those that could afford acupuncture have enjoyed the many health and relaxation benefits that acupuncture provides. Unfortunately, for most of us, the cost of the usual acupuncture treatment has been prohibitively expensive as it is necessary to have a course of acupuncture treatments for the most effective outcomes.

Looking for a way to make acupuncture more affordable and accessible to all, acupuncturist Catherine Browne has adopted a practice model that the pioneers at Portland, Oregon’s Working Class Acupuncture developed: the community-acupuncture business model. In community acupuncture clinics, patients receive care in a group setting while resting in a comfortable reclining chair. This treatment model allows us to give effective, individual treatments while seeing multiple patients per hour, which brings our costs down allowing for sliding scale rates of $15-35.

Treatment in an open setting is common in Asia, and community acupuncture clinics are starting to pop up all over the country. The model enables more frequent, and thus, more effective treatment. Sharing a treatment room with others may also enhance the effectiveness of the treatment; sometimes called the "qi of the community", both practitioners and patients benefit from an synergistic healing effect.

Given the rising cost of health care and the state of our health care system, we believe that providing affordable acupuncture to all is more important than ever. We are at the beginning of a social health care revolution in which acupuncture, made affordable, will play a crucial role.

Acupuncture is one of the five branches of Chinese medicine and involves the insertion of hair fine needles at acupoints that lie along energetic channels of the body. Acupuncture can treat any disease or imbalance in the body, although most people are familiar with acupuncture for pain relief, fertility, cancer support and emotional stability.

Licensed Acupuncturists in North Carolina are required to attend a minimum of two years of undergraduate college and three years of Oriental Medical School.  Licensed acupuncturists have in-depth training in Chinese medicine of 2000-3000+ hours. This amount of training is necessary to treat internal conditions using the complex systems and theories of Chinese medicine. Acupuncturists licensed in North Carolina must also pass the National Board Tests administered by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

Five Branches of Chinese Medicine:
Acupuncture
Acupuncture needles allow a trained Acupuncturist to manipulate Qi (Chi) energy in the body, clear stagnation in the body, and tonify deficiencies in the body. About Acupuncture...
Chinese Herbs
Chinese herbs are used along with acupuncture treatments to help nourish the body and bring the body into balance. We offer an online herb pharmacy. Chinese tonic herbs are especially  helpful in cases of deficiency where the Blood and Qi of the body need to be fortified. Order Chinese Herbs...
Tui-Na Medical Massage
Chinese tui-na medical massage utilizes the same theories of Chinese medicine as acupressure does, and requires an in-depth knowledge of Chinese medicine to be effective. Acupressure points are stimulated with fingers, palms and elbows. Channels are activated and accumulations are dispersed using special manipulations and techniques.
Chinese Food Therapy
Foods, like herbs, have different energetic qualities that can affect our Yin Yang balance in our bodies. Balancing Yin Yang in the body is a fundamental concept in Chinese medicine. Certain foods can produce dampness, dryness, coldness, or heat.
Medical Qi Gong
Unlike acupuncture, Medical Qi Gong is not a well known form of Chinese medicine here in the States; however, this powerful form of energy work transforms an average acupuncture treatment into an opportunity for transformation and true healing.
